Smile Our First Rally Class

So today Sam and I attended a rally intro class.

I wasn't sure what my old man would think of it but he was the star of the class! We did the 'course' three times - once on leash with treats, once with the leash over my shoulder and only one bone as a lure, and again off leash with no food. He was so excited his feet smacked the floor every time he had to lie down. He even outdid the trainer's demo dog.
The trainer was very impressed and didn't believe he'd never been in any formal training classes (he breezed through his CGC and therapy dog certifications based on at home work).
She said we might be better off renting ring space at a local trainer's property and practicing on our own instead of spending money on classes. Apparently my boy is a natural!

I'd love to hear other people's experiences with rally!! Has anyone else introduced an older dog to the sport?

I have done Rally with three of my dogs. Two earned AKC's highest Rally title - the RAE. I don't remember how old my boys were when we started Rally, but I think Aslan must have been there or four years old.

It is a nice sport to get you going into dog sports. Have fun!!!

It does sound like your boy is a natural. Good job to both of you.
