Thumbs up 1st RA and RE legs

Oh yeah, you show 'em my Excellent boy!

1st Excellent level Rally run, 1st place with a score of 98! Only lost points for a little too much excitement after the jumps (out of position).

Parker's first Advanced run was not so stellar, but we qualified with a score of 82. He was fine and connected with me right up to when I replied to the judge we were ready... then we became mister saggy head. He wrapped in front of me for every side sit and just wasn't there. But we were surrounded by 6 other rings, 5 of which were conformation. His lost focus tells me we're going to playing some motivation/focus games to get him in gear when he drags. His runs are GORGEOUS when he's on, so I know he can do it. Should have heard me chattering to him! At one point it looked like I was begging him to just sit right. All the while I had a smile on my face and was speaking cheerily HOPING he would snap out of it. Oh well... we got our greens and a blue.

Kick tail for teamwork!

And afterwards? Frosty Paws!

Hope everyone is enjoying the videos. The first one is an example of a really good run. The second is an example of working with a dog who's not into it at the moment and trying to pull out a Qualifying run by staying upbeat.

I thought Parker's run was actually really good!! He's intact, and you were at a conformation show, so consider this. Conformation allows bitches in heat to compete. He had a HUGE distraction going on, poor guy!! No wonder his head wasn't in it. I bet when you show at a non conformation show, you'll get better results. Anyway, I thought he looked really good, and you're being too hard on him. He only had trouble sitting (and remember, when an intact dog smells females in heat, it becomes difficult and probably painful for them to sit - without getting too descriptive).

Draco was having a blast with a wagging tail. BTW, a quick word of advice, if you want to go into formal obedience, talk with your trainer and tell her. You're handling is great for Rally, but will need to be changed if you have further obedience dreams.

Jericho did very well at our show this weekend earning two Graduate Open legs (Utility stuff) and two firsts. He loves it, and we learned a ton. Asher, on the other hand, did not do so well. He earned three straight Rally Novice legs (with all placements), but he HATED it. He did well the first run with a 98, and I thought he might like showing in Rally. But once he learned there isn't anything really intrinsically fun in the sport, he went quickly downhill. His look at me toward the end of our last Rally "run" involved curse words. I won't make him show in Rally again. If he doesn't like it, he doesn't have to do it.

ROTFL! Thank you for that, I'm laughing so hard right now the screen is hard to read! He is a wonderful dog with some grand flare out there in the ring, his practice runs before the show were soooo dead on spot that I was little crestfallen for the both of us when his head wasn't in the game. His previous co-owner was at the show and when I told her how the run went she figured he saw the other Conformation dogs and wanted to be over there doing that instead of being 'retired'. I have some string cheese and a few things to try in training sessions to help him learn to focus a little more so that we can really show them how snappy he can be.

Hope you mean Ash here, last I checked I don't have a tail to wag. But yes, he is doing fantastic out there, you can tell he just LOVES it. Yup, I know my handling is not Obedience standard--originally wasn't really aiming for that ring. My entrance into dog showing of any sort came in the beginning of '09 with Rally being the lure. However--beat you to the punch here. Those of us who have been doing Rally for a bit are considering trying Obedience, we talked another trainer associated with where I work into starting a class to teach us how to train and prep for that ring. Specifically the transition from Rally to Obedience. We start a drop in style class tomorrow night. I'm going to assess whether or not I really want to enter full Obedience or just stick with Rally. We shall see. Ashenpaw and Parker seem to really enjoy the chattering I get to do in Rally.

Sounds like a decent weekend for you too, poor Asher... was he into it more than Parker? Or just sticking his tongue out at you the whole time?

Thanks for watching them. I'd post Ash's 3 1/2 minute Honor, but it gets a little boring.

Draco, I really enjoyed the videos. I love watching and seeing how great all the dogs do. Ash looked great and well, Parker did look a little distracted and dilly dallied a bit but it was still great to watch!!

Sorry I called Ash you. too little sleep this last weekend is my excuse.

Parker looked like a star compared to Asher's last run. I was dragging the poor guy though the last third or so of the course. At the last two signs, he began barking in anger (which I've really never seen him do) and his ear set was in the typical anger position for dogs. And the look in his eyes is something I have rarely seen in him. It was frustration borne anger. He barked his way out of the ring. He was frustrated and wanted to find the exit....yesterday.

But after a few moments and some salmon crack, he returned to his normal silly self. I'm always amazed at what gos for passing in Novice Rally, and we got a fourth place with an 89.

I would have liked to have that run videoed because it is so typical Asher. He made me laugh! He is so emotional and so out there. It's what makes him and exceptional agility dog, but also what I thought might keep him from doing any obedience. I was right. We could overcome it with enough training, but I don't have the time to devote to Rally. If they can't get Rallly with about 15 minutes training a month, I won't do it with them. We have so much to do in agility, all of our training time goes there.

ericho is different and gets about two hours a month training time for obedience as that's his main sport. He loves it. Even so, he doesn't get near enough time to get really good, and neither do I. But that's OK. I'm happy with him the way he is.
