Default Peeti's Agility Training Diary

I am training my chisky to do agility. His name is Peeti and he is 17 inches tall, he has long, strong legs and loves to climb and jump, he is 2 years old. We are very close and since I have a lot of free time I think agility would both be perfect. Besides, we both need the exercise xD

Schedule:
Weeks:
1. Heal and Weave
2.Hurdles & "flyball" type exercises
3. Hurdles
4. Tunnels and Collapse Tunnels
5. Tunnels and Collapse
6. Hurdles
7. Heal and Weave
8. Tunnels
9. Pointing (Training him to go to the said obstacle by pointing)
10.Weaving and Heal
11 +. Practice

We are building our equipment and i already have a plan for that. Whenever the next classes in our area opens then I'll enter him in them
I am going to have water and treats handy at all times
I am going to do other obstacle training during the weeks I'm doing the scheduled ones so he doesn't get bored. We will take frequent play and laze breaks.

Any other tips would be great, wish us luck

No tips but it sounds like you are both going to have fun. Keep us posted on how it is going. We like pictures too. BTW good luck and welcome to the forum.

Are you ever planning to compete? If so, I'd advise waiting to train until you can take agility classes. The reason is that agility is very difficult to train correctly and extremely easy to train wrong. A professional trainer can keep you from making mistakes that will cause you huge issues in the ring.

BTW, let me introduce myself. I'm a professional agility trainer. I teach people how to train their dogs for agility competition for a living.

I have a blog that I started on how I trained my newest agility dog, Asher. Here's the link:

If you plan to compete, even your schedule of what you are going to train and when is wrong. Train obedience skills (like heel, sit, down, stay, come, and tricks) until you can get to an agility class.

However, if you AREN'T going to compete, then go out there and have fun with your schedule.

Agility is all about having fun. It doesn't matter if you're only going to be in your backyard or if you're planning on earning a MACH - agility is all about the fun.
