Default Mushing!

I just have to share my excitement!!! I just got an e-mail back from a local mushing club member who I've been talking to about their mushing team and they agreed to add Tikaani into their team once she's done nursing, the pups are adopted out and she's had some basic obedience training so she can get some sled dog practice! And we're keeping one of the pups and she is going to let the pup race on her team as soon as it's old enough too. I'm absolutely overjoyed!!! I would love to mush but 1. I don't have the knowledge and 2. I don't have the equiptment (plus a 1 dog mushing team would look kinda funny haha) but hopefully she'll make something of herself and the pup when it's older too and it'll be worth my while to buy my own mushing equip. and maybe once we're in a place w/ some acreage and a big fence I can adopt a few more huskies and train to have a nice team. This is just wonderful! So I thought I'd share my excitement.

That's great Lynusann! It must be really exciting. Definitely something to look forward to. I know Zoe would love to be on a mushing team. She's on the petite side (26lbs, and 17in at the shoulder) but she is VERY strong. All muscle. And she loves to pull. Congrats!

it'll obviously be a few months (w/ her obediance training too) but I'll be sure to get LOTS of pictures. She really doesn't pull on the leash but that's b/c we've taught her not to but I know we can direct her energy in the right place and at the appropriate times. Plus she's still got a LOT of growing to do. She was 45 lbs (W/ pups) after pups she's about 37 lbs...and I think since then she's probably gained another 10-15 lbs just w/ as much as she's eaten in the last 4 weeks. She's definitely on the "small" side for her breed and I'm sure that having the pups so young will affect her growth a bit but hopefully not too much

That's great news! Few family pets get to do the job they were bred for! With one dog you can still Ski-Jor!

You'll also be able to learn the basics from a musher... I'm jealous

Hi That is really good news bet you can't wait, There are quite a lot of people in Scotland with Siberian Huskies who take part in mushing and we have gone to quite Fund raising dog days to raise funds for various dog charities where there have been displays by the mushers. I really enjoyed watching it, but don't think my borzois would be interested in mushing . Anyhow good luck with the puppies and with your mushing in the near future.

The more I think about it the more anxious I get! 4 week before the pups can be adopted out. Puppies are like little kids...they DEFINATELY like to try your patience but they are cute so you can't be upset w/ them for more than like 2 seconds haha.

Not really familiar w/ Ski-joring. Someone mentioned it to me once but I had never heard of it before that.

Oh, and you can bet your buttons I'm gonna have LOTS of pictures! Maybe I'll get lucky enough to go out w/ the team one day haha. I've been told that one of the regular Iditarod racers lives right here in Colorado Springs so I might have to schmooze my way to meet him lol
