Default Very Close Call...(story #1)

I dodged a big bullet this weekend. Normally I am on the computer for at least several hours at a crack on weekend evenings. Well Friday night we came home from dinner with the neighbors, let our dogs out and I jumped online. The wife let the dogs back in and promptly feel asleep on the floor (the margaritas) while I did my thing online (I have a mod role at an overclocking forum). Well after only an hour I decided to call it a night and go watch some SciFi. If I had not done this the likelihood is that the one where my name comes from, our 3rd Great Pyrenees and my baby, Bindusar would be dead. If that would have happened I would probably never have been able to look at my computer again because of the guit. I work so much and go to school and then am online when I can, I don't get to spend a lot of time with our dogs. What happened? He bloated. For those who don't know, bloat is a condition that owners of deep chested dogs need to know about. Their stomach starts to fill with gas and then flips/twists/folds causing a lack of blood flow which quickly developes into necrotic (dead) tissue. Usually owners don't catch it quick enough and by the time they get to an emergency vet and the animal is in surgery, too much damage has been done and they can't save them. I got very lucky that it was just that one hour as the surgery went well and he only had about a 2" diameter section of stomach that had to be removed. One fluke was that the vet at the emergency center just happened to be our regular vet! She works at both the office as well as does night shift work at the emergency center (this happed at 11PM). He is already back home with us and has a nice zipper running the length of his abdomen (they stapled him shut). He is doing great and we are $3100 poorer. Yup, pricey surgery. When I took him in they had to have a $2500 deposit and inside I was kind of like Well, we do what we have to. All four of our kids are from rescue...maybe it was meant to be. Many people would never be able to afford what we have had to spend on our kids to save them. (no, we don't have the 2 legged kind, just the furry ones)
